Microneedling

As the skin matures, it naturally becomes thinner, less resilient and slower to heal. Fine lines appear more easily, pores look more visible and past sun damage or breakouts leave behind uneven texture or pigmentation that’s harder to shift.

Microneedling offers a subtle yet powerful way to restore the skin’s vitality by encouraging it to rebuild from the inside out. It’s a treatment grounded in skin science, stimulating new collagen and elastin to improve texture, firmness and tone over time.

Frequently asked questions

What is microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a treatment that uses a device with ultra-fine needles to create precise, controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These tiny channels prompt the body’s natural wound-healing response, triggering a cascade of collagen and elastin production.

As the skin heals, it becomes smoother, firmer and more even. Pores appear tighter, pigmentation softens and fine lines and scarring reduce gradually over time. The treatment works with your skin’s natural regenerative capacity, helping it behave as it did when it was younger.

What can microneedling treat?

Microneedling is particularly effective for treating:

  • Fine lines and early wrinkles, especially around the eyes and mouth

  • Mild to moderate acne scarring and uneven skin texture

  • Sun damage, pigmentation and age spots

  • Visible pores, loss of firmness and dullness

  • General skin rejuvenation and improvement in tone and clarity

It is safe for most skin types and tones and can be used on the face, neck and décolletage. It’s also an excellent treatment to support skin through the perimenopausal and postmenopausal years, when renewal slows down but the desire for skin that looks healthy and vibrant remains.

The treatment experience?

Treatments take place in a calm, private setting in Old Harlow, Essex. Each appointment begins with a full consultation and a review of your skin’s current condition, concerns and goals.

A numbing cream can be applied beforehand to ensure the treatment is as comfortable as possible, but numbing is not always necessary and will be discussed during the consultation. The device is then passed over the skin in multiple directions, creating uniform microchannels. The depth of the needles is adjusted based on the area being treated and the condition of the skin, deeper for areas like the cheeks and a  more delicate depth for around the eyes or upper lip.

The treatment takes around 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the area. Immediately after, the skin may appear pink or slightly flushed, similar to a mild sunburn and might feel tight for 24 to 48 hours. This is completely normal and typically resolves quickly. Most clients resume normal activities within a day.

How many sessions will I need?

Microneedling works cumulatively. While some skin looks brighter and fresher after just one session, most clients benefit from a course of treatments - usually three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, depending on your skin’s needs.

Maintenance treatments can be carried out every six to twelve months following a course, to continue supporting skin renewal and collagen production as the skin continues to age. Results are subtle but build over time - firmer, smoother skin with improved clarity and resilience.

Why choose microneedling?

Microneedling is a particularly appealing option for women who want a meaningful improvement in skin quality without injectables or harsh resurfacing. It’s effective without being aggressive and works in harmony with the skin, not against it.

It’s also a highly versatile treatment, which can be used on sensitive areas and tailored to different skin concerns and stages of life. Whether you're dealing with early signs of ageing, pigmentation, texture issues or simply want to maintain healthy skin in midlife and beyond, microneedling offers a reliable, regenerative option.

Is microneedling painful?

A numbing cream can be used to ensure comfort if required, but is not always necessary. You may feel a mild scratching sensation, especially on bony areas like the forehead or jawline, but the treatment is very manageable and over quickly.  Needle depth can be adjusted throughout treatment to improve comfort.

When will I see results?

Skin usually looks fresher within a few days. Improvements in texture and firmness begin to show around 2–4 weeks after treatment and continue to develop for several months.

Is there downtime?

There is minimal downtime. Skin may look pink and feel tight for a day or two. Most clients return to normal activities the next day, with gentle skincare and sun protection advised for a few days post-treatment.

Is microneedling suitable for all skin types?

Yes, it’s safe for most skin types and tones. However, it may not be suitable for those with certain skin conditions or very thin, reactive skin. A full consultation will determine suitability.
